Good morning/afternoon/evening residents!
Greetings, Summerlake. My name is Chris Miller. First off, I'd like to thank Greg Womble for serving as our President the past few years. My husband and I have been a part of this neighborhood for just over 11 years now and I am honored to be serving as our community's President. Over the years, Summerlake has seen many changes. We have been hit by the worst housing market crash since the great depression. We have endured through the pandemic, and we are currenly in the biggest housing boom in our lifetimes. The last couple years have seen an unprecedented number of homes sold and new faces are all over the neighborhood. If you have not done so, please take the opportunity to get out and walk the neighborhood streets and introduce yourself to your neighbors. We are a great community. That greatness shows through our shared reliance and support of the HOA covenants.
The board of directors and I are working on some exciting improvements to our community. We, as a board, cannot make these improvements alone. We need community support. That support should focus on two major ideals, Stewardship and Engagement.
The Board must focus and maintain stewardship of the funds and areas of responsibility that you, our neighbors, put your trust into. We will maintain transparency in everything we do. That transparenecy includes the open invitation to all our friends and neighbors to attend the monthly board meetings. It also includes your ability to view all meeting minutes and our annual budget. However, the board members and the staff supporting us cannot be the only ones responsible for stewardship. We need the whole community to take responsibility for their properties and the public lands. We all own this neighborhood and it needs all of us to make it work.
The way we make it work is through engagement. We need homeowners to get involved. That involvement could be anything from picking up a piece of trash on the road to volunteering for community events. Some of the best ways we can all be engaged is to show up to the semi-annual homeowners meeting, share ideas on neighborhood improvements with neighbors and the board, or just go out and put a friendly face on our community.
Summerlake is a great place to live. Let's get out there and show the rest of Newport News how great we are!
Sincerely,
Chris Miller
As we move into warmer weather it is power washing season. Homes with visible fungus, mildew, or algae on the siding, trim or guttering will be cited according to the by-laws and covenants.
Parking in Summerlake is a premium and an enhanced effort will be taking place in enforcing the by-law section on inoperable and/or unlicensed motor vehicles. Vehicles that are not considered passenger vehicles or vehicles in obvious need of heavy repair will be cited according to the by-laws and covenants.
Home values in Summerlake are at a premium. Myself and the Board of Directors of the Summerlake Homeowners Association would like to convey our thanks to everyone for keeping Summerlake one of Newport News’s gems of home value.
Thank-you,
Jimmy Hardison
Covenants Inspector - Summerlake HOA
